ACT II INSTITUTE

July 7 through August 1, 2008

THE EXPERIENCE:
Company of Fools presents ACT II INSTITUTE – classes in acting, voice and creativity for adults 62 and over. Participants will also have an opportunity to attend all three plays performed in Company of Fools’ Summer Fools Festival, as well as meet and interact with the actors, designers and directors. Taught by the Company’s core artists, company members and guest artists, ACT II INSTITUTE will provide an experience of the highest quality. No prior theatre experience is necessary to participate.

THE CLASSES:

Connecting You to Your Voice

Teacher: R.L. Rowsey

Dates: July 7, 14, 21 & 28

Time: Monday from 1PM – 3PM

The human voice consists of sound that is used in myriad ways - talking, singing, laughing, crying, screaming - all the while expressing a colorful palate of emotions.

Somehow, for many of us, our voice gets “caught” and we find our voice disconnected from that which we wish to communicate. This class explores various exercises to help unlock our voice and find freedom of vocal expression.

Tapping Your Creative Self

Teacher: Denise Simone & Guest Artists

Dates: July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 & 31

Time: Tuesdays & Thursdays from 1PM – 3PM

Drawing on personal experience, observation, imagination, dreams and art, this class explores the "how" of tapping into our own creativity. Class methods include improvisation, movement, writing, voice and visual arts.

Acting: Beyond the Smoke and Mirrors

Teacher: Denise Simone

Dates: July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29 & August 1

Time: Wednesdays & Fridays from 1PM – 3PM

Acing is the harvesting, telling and sharing of stories. This class is designed to explore your own unique art of acting stories – whether they are stories of your own making or those of the playwright.

Through improvisation, monologue and simple scene work the class will explore the limitless possibilities of how to bring ourselves to the story - thus bringing the story to life on stage.

ACT II INSTITUTE SHARE

Dates: Friday, August 1

Time: 2PM - 3:30PM

Participants from all three classes will be invited to share their selected work with invited guests and the general public.
