denise@companyoffools.org Denise Simone (Core Company Artist) is a founding member of Company of Fools, and is also an accomplished director, teacher, playwright and actress. Her directing credits include Frankie & Johnny in the Clair de Lune, The Gift of the Magi, The Laramie Project, A Christmas Carol, Diary of a Madman, A Shayna Maidel, Graceland, Belle of Amherst and TheatreVirginia's New Voices series. As a playwright, Simone has had four plays produced in the United States. Her children's play on adoption, Me and My Families, has toured for over four years and has served as a recruitment tool for adoption agencies looking to match families with special needs children. Simone has taught theatre, creative writing and literacy classes in Virginia and Idaho, including Company of Fools, Richmond's School for the Performing Arts, St. Catherine's and the Center for the Arts. Simone is a professional actress having appeared in Company of Fools' productions of Shirley Valentine, The Tempest, Dinner With Friends, James Joyce's The Dead, Fool for Love starring Bruce Willis, Side Man, The Philadelphia Story, How I Learned To Drive, The Glass Menagerie, What Happened Was... and Danny and the Deep Blue Sea. Other favorite roles have been the title role in St. Joan at LA's Theatre Exchange, Echo in Eleemosynary, Iris in Down the Road and Deirdre in I Hate Hamlet at TheatreVirginia. Ms Simone is an Arts Commissioner for the Idaho Commission on the Arts. |
